Level 1. Advanced Skilled Flat Roofing

hAble to apply two types of roofing (Torchdown and hot tar) at an advanced skill level

equal to a B.C. Technically Qualified (TQ) roofer

hAble to perform small re-roofing projects “start to finish” with minimal supervision

hAble to understand drawings and written instructions from suppliers and consultants.

hAble to familiarize themselves quickly with local roofing terminology and products

hAble to provide instruction and direction to lesser-skilled workers

hAble to operate or train quickly to operate powered equipment (roof sweeper, cutter,

spudding machine, tear-off machine, nail guns, etc.) and manual tools (spudding bars,

gravel buggies)

hWilling to attend, if required, approximately three unpaid training sessions (one day each

for fall protection, first aid and WHMIS) provided by employer

hAble to quickly familiarize themselves with company safety program and WorkSafe BC

regulations

hAble to operate a motor vehicle at BC Class 5 level and obtain a BC Drivers’ Licence

hAble to work toward BC Technical Certification in the roofing trade

hAble to demonstrate the intrapersonal skills necessary to work in a crew environment and

possible train for a future supervisory position

hAble to work non-standard hours (up to a 60 hour week in summer and a 20 hour week in

winter)

hMaintain the level of physical fitness necessary to remove old roofing, erect ladders and

handle a range of roofing products and equipment

Level 2: Experienced Skilled Flat Roofer

hAble to demonstrate the same technical skills as above but requiring supervision and

direction. Not able to follow written directions at the requisite level. No driving skills.
