FOR AN EMPLOYMENT VISA One

from the sponsoring company, with the Block visa number and date Copy

applied for. A
letter of No Objection or a Letter of Release from previous employer, if
applicant has worked in Saudi Arabia. Foreign

AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The
employer shall bear the costs of transporting and returning the worker from
point of hire to worksite The
employer shall provide free of charge 3 meals a day The
employer shall also provide suitable living quarters. Workers
are required to surrender their passports to their employers. A
foreign worker should be under contract with and guaranteed by a Saudi employer,
or a non-Saudi employer authorized under the Regulations of Foreign Capital. The
Labor Contract should be in writing, and drawn up in Arabic and in duplicate,
one copy to be retained by each party. The
contract should be signed by the worker and the employer specifying the
worker’s wage, job specification, and terms of employment. The
work week is from Saturday through Wednesday, with the weekend on Thursday and
Friday. Note:
Friday is the Muslim holy day of the week. Regular
working hours is 8 hours per day / 48 hours per week Note:
During Ramadan – not to exceed 6 hrs/day or 36 hrs/week exclusive of the
intervals for prayer, rest and meals Regular
working hours may be raised to 9 hrs/day in certain categories (e.g. hotels,
snack bars, restaurants) Regular
working hours may also be reduced in case of hazardous or harmful nature Overtime
Pay of 150% is provided for work rendered on rest days and holidays Overtime
should note exceed 4 hours Where
the worker has completed 1 year service, he shall be entitled to an annual
vacation leave of 15 days with full wages payable in advance. After
two (2) years of service, a worker is entitled to a one (1) month fully paid
vacation leave. Vacation
leave shall be increased to 21 days where the worker has completed 10 continuous
years of service Employer
shall grant worker sick leave with full pay for the first 30 days and ¾ pay for
the next 60 days in any 1 year Employees
of firms with 10 or more workers are covered with Social Insurance Foreign
workers and their dependents are not entitled to free government heath care
services. Foreign
workers do not file personal income tax Foreign
workers cannot leave KSA without their employers consent. An
exit permit is required at the airport before one can leave the Kingdom. The
exit visa is only issued upon the request of the Saudi sponsor. An
OFW can only re-enter the Kingdom after six(6) months from his last departure
from the Kingdom. If
you pre-terminate your contract, you will have to wait for three (3) years
before you are allowed to return to Saudi Arabia. Employer
shall grant worker sick leave with full pay for the first 30 days and ¾ pay for
the next 60 days in any 1 year Just

COMMON PROBLEMS In
general, the present salary rate in Saudi Arabia is too low compared with the
salary rates before. However,
workers in established companies (e.g. hospitals) generally enjoy higher wages
compared to those working in small companies. The
former also enjoy good accommodation and worksites with modern equipment,
good lighting and ventilation, and safety devices while the later may not enjoy

REMINDERS Practicing
religion publicly other than Islam is prohibited. It
is also prohibited to possess religious articles such as bible, crucifix,
statues and other symbols. During
prayer time, restaurants, stores, and other public places close for
approximately half an hour as the Muslims stop their activities. Foreigners
are advised to respect the observance of the Ramadan by not eating, drinking,
smoking, chewing gum, etc. in public from dust till dawn. The
“IQAMA” or residence permits which serves as proof of legal residence in the
country must be carried by the worker at all times. Women
are not allowed to interact with men other than their husbands. Women are
advised to wear their “abaya” when going out. Wearing of pants is not
also advisable. Married
couples should carry with them their marriage certificates when going out
together. Other
forbidden items include mobile phones with built-in cameras, weapons,
ammunition, pork and pornography. Saudi
law prohibits the sale or use of any alcoholic drink. Any gambling activity is
likewise ban. Public
theatres
and cinemas are prohibited. Makkah
and Madinah hold special religious significance and only persons of the Islamic
faith are allowed entry. Taking
photographs of mosques, airports and military installations without permission
is not allowed. Before
entering a house of a Saudi, you should stand at the door in such a way you
cannot see the inside. You can only enter when your host has signaled you
by extending his right hand, palm up, and said “Tafaddal”, or "Come
in". Involving
in illicit drug activities is strictly prohibited. Using prohibited drugs is
punishable by imprisonment while smuggling or trafficking is punishable by
death. Prescription

of rice with mildly spiced lamb or chicken, dates and milk products. They traditionally
eat with their fingers while sitting cross-legged on the floor. Banquets are
usually served on the floor covered with rugs. Coffee, tea,
buttermilk cola and the camel’s milk called “laban” are the popular
beverages. Generally,
they take little food during the day and have their main meal in the evening.
During
